Of Course I'm Happy, why would I be? And so are Dad...Mom...My Little Brother...You...Every One...EVERYONE-EVERYONE-EVERYONE!
Yugi Amane breaking down and answering Yashiro Nene's question, and then becoming derranged while transforming into a supernatural. Chapter 119

Yugi Amane ( () () (あまね) Yugi Amane?), is first and foremost, a variant of Hanako who didn't met his demise in 1968, and therefore, didn't become "Hanako-san of the Toilet" of the Seven Mysteries, thanks to the actions of Kako and Mirai, which led to the creation of the New Present.

In this New Present, Yugi Amane grew up and became a teacher at Kamome Gakuen, in which he met and befriended Tsuchigomori to the point where the former gave a wrist watch to the latter, and in exchange, seemed to have taught Tsuchigomori some of his parlor tricks. He also appears in the (ethereal) flesh to Yashiro Nene when she visited the school's Science Prep Room.

However at some point, the Red House had lured him in and claimed him as one of its prisoners and as a result, an entity that claims to serve the god controlling the Red House assumed his human form.

Additionally, said being can transform into a supernatural similar to his little twin brother, who resides at the Red House in the present day. He is responsible for the deaths of both Kou and Mitsuba, and may also be responsible for the death of three of the members of Teru's Team.

Overview[]

Yugi Amane in the Science Prep Room.
Yugi Amane in the Science Prep Room.

This version of Yugi Amane first appears as a picture towards the end of Chapter 112, when Tsuchigomori mentions his name to Nagisa. Nagisa had asked him why Tsuchigomori had kept the wrist watch despite it being broken for a long time, and Tsuchigomori answered that while it isn't keepsake, it was something that an "old colleague" gave to him, and he has worn it eversince.

The scene then pans to an image that Tsuchigomori kept on his desk. The picture is of Yugi Amane and his class. He sits in the center of the image, dressed in a scientist-like outfit reminiscent of Researcher A from the Kamome Monster Nursery Universe.

He finally appears, albeit still with his face obscured and his backside being seen in Chapter 113. As he passes by a trio of girls who are initiating the Ritual of the Spirit Gate, he makes a rather devious smile upon hearing the name that they were chanting.

In Chapter 115, his face is fully shown for the first time, and in essence, his face is Hanako's face if he grew up to adulthood. He also shows a rather somber yet friendly smile to his face.

It is unknown if he is still alive in the New Present's present day, but given his age, he would already be an old man aged 59 or 60 years old. When he did appear before Yashiro Nene in the Science Prep Room, both he and the room itself were revealed to be time-displaced apparitions that vanished afterwards. Chapter 118 confirms that he is still "alive" in a sense, albeit as a Supernatural similar to Yugi Tsukasa and harboring a more malicious personality. Chapter 120 further reveals that Yugi Amane was but one of many victims of the Red House's underlying being, thus revealing that he had "died" at some point in his 28th year, thus putting his death around the year 1983 onwards.

Appearance[]

Photograph[]

Unlike his original version from the previous timeline, Yugi Amane didn't die when he was in his early teens and became Hanako-san of the Seven Mysteries. Instead, grew up to adulthood and became a teacher at Kamome Gakuen. Hence, his overall appearance resembles what the original Yugi Amane would look like if he grew up to adulthood. While he still retains the same unkempt hair and golden eyes, his physique has grown to one where he has a tall and slim figure that is evident even if he's sitting down in the photograph.

In the picture which he appears in, he is dressed in a sharp and smart-looking scientist outfit, with a large white lab coat overlaying a sweater (Reminiscent of Tsuchigomori's purple one), and a lanyard with an ID card hanging below his chest. He also seemingly wears dark-colored pants and shoes that are similar to his original counterpart's own. This outfit is similar in appearance to that of Researcher A's own outfit.

After his face is seen in Chapter 115, we see more of his facial features, and it is simply Hanako if he grew up. While his face does resemble Hanako's to a degree, it is noticeably larger and more mature-looking due to his age. He also carries a somber yet friendly smile to him, which complements his kind personality. Unlike in his photograph, he wears a collared shirt underneath his lab coat.

Supernatural[]

In Chapter 118, it is revealed that Yugi Amane was the person staying at the Red House, and it is also revealed that he has become a supernatural similar to his younger twin brother. He has a hole over where his face should be, in addition to tentacles, which are notably absent in Tsukasa's own form.

Notably, his tentacles have eyes on every part of it, making him seem more eldritch than before.

Personality[]

Original Person[]

Have a seat...Would you like some coffee?
— the time-displaced apparition of Yugi Amane inviting Yashiro Nene to take a seat, have a coffee and chat with him, before disappearing, Chapter 115

This iteration of Yugi Amane is quite a different person, especially when compared with his original counterpart. Primarily, he appears to be friendly and kind, as he gave Tsuchigomori his wristwatch as a memento, and allows students to visit his Science Prep room anytime they wished. This may be why Tsuchigomori considers him as an "old colleague" when talking about him to Nagisa. He also is somewhat of a jokester as he tells students who enter his Science Prep room that they are not allowed in there, only to later tell them that he's kidding. According to Tsuchigomori, Yugi Amane spends more time learning magic and other parlor tricks than his work all for the sake of entertaining kids and making them happy.

However, even in life, Yugi Amane seems to show a rather dark side to him, as when he passed by a trio of students who are using Tsukasa's name for their Spirit Gate Ritual, he gives a rather creepy smile, perhaps because he knows what had happened to him.

A small habit of Amane is that he drinks coffee from a measuring beaker.

Supernatural Impostor[]

Oh be quiet, you're scaring him. You should be happy, after all, Two new friends are joining you!
— the real Yugi Amane quieting down the ghosts who were trying to help Mitsuba Sousuke escape, only for him to assure them that they would be getting two new friends and assuming his supernatural form, Chapter 118

After Yugi Amane was lured into the Red House and consumed by the Entity within it, an impostor of Amane that serves the Red House becomes its custodian, and in essence, Amane has been thoroughly replaced by a supernatural posing as him. This impostor still carries a friendly personality, albeit now twisted, as he sees kidnapping both Kou and Mitsuba as "introducing" two new friends to the ghosts occupying the Red House alongside him.

When Yashiro Nene had asked him if he was happy in his life, Amane responded that he was, however he has a rather twisted definition of happiness, as it is implied that he has done terrible things as a supernatural in order to keep those he loves "happy", which is what makes him happy. Thus, it is further implied that the ghosts he had kidnapped, plus Kou and Mitsuba, were actually those that in his twisted mind, claimed to care about to wish for their happiness.

Mankind has a terrible habit of looking for meaning in life and death.

But there's no special reason as to why people die here.

This house is little more than a hunting ground, And it's my job to feed it.

I have an obligation to offer onto it all of the prey that wanders in here, like my dad, my mom, my brother

All of them were sacrificed, just the same!

Yugi Amane explaining to the members of Teru's Team his overall goals, Chapter 121.

In Chapter 120, Minamoto Kou reveals to Yashiro Nene that Yugi Amane was one of the countless victims of the "controller" of the Red House, thus indirectly revealing that said supernatural form was in reality, a supernatural being posing as Amane both in form and personality. This is confirmed in Chapter 121, as the supernatural once again exclaimed that it is sacrificing (or "feeding") countless people to the controller of the Red House.

Powers And Abilities[]

Supernatural form[]

Yugi Amane is capable of shifting from his human form to his supernatural form. His supernatural form is almost similar to Yugi Tsukasa's own except fitted to a large and tall adult, bearing a large gaping hole over where his face should be, as well as possessing a number of tentacles which are filled with eyes. Noticeably, those tentacles are absent in Tsukasa's own form.

He can also transform into his supernatural form if triggered by someone mentioning his original iteration and when he remembers his memories.

In Chapter 120, Minamoto Kou reveals to Yashiro Nene that Yugi Amane was one of the countless victims of the "controller" of the Red House, thus indirectly revealing that said supernatural form was in reality, a supernatural being posing as Amane. In Chapter 121, after Teru violently kills Amane, a mass of oozing black liquid emerged from the Well, which transformed into Amane, thus confirming that he is indeed a supernatural posing as one of its victims.

Tentacles[]

Yugi Amane can use the tentacles in his supernatural form to kidnap his victims and trap them inside the Red House. He used them to kidnap Kou and Mitsuba, and then later on, does the same to Nene. Those tentacles are also capable of knocking down their enemies unconscious, as it did with Minamoto Teru.

Recollection[]

In Chapter 119, it is somewhat implied that Yugi Amane remembers everything pertaining to his original counterpart, but any form of remembering said memories may trigger a breakdown in which he transforms into his supernatural form.

It seems that when he's in his "human" form, Amane doesn't seem to know of his original counterpart's memories, as he wondered who Nene and Kou were, and even asked what uniform they're wearing and what school they go to. However, they are only remembered if he is transformed in his supernatural self, as he mentions to Nene about how he is happy because everyone he knows is happy, something only the original Hanako was ever concerned about, especially with Nene's own. In Chapter 121, after Minamoto Teru mentions "little brother" when interrogating Amane, he suddenly remembers all the things that he did, which also helped him to answer Teru's question in a sadistic way.

Regenerative Immortality[]

Don't you know? Outside gods have no power here.

That said, a clock that can govern time? That might be a problem.

Yugi Amane boasting that the power of other gods have no influence on him, while noting that the Big Clock poses a threat to his existence, Chapter 121.

So long as Yugi Amane is within the Red House, he can be killed, destroyed or exorcised, only for a copy to emerge from the black liquid in the Well below the Red House. Thus in effect, Yugi Amane cannot be truly killed, destroyed or exorcised. Likewise, any capable supernatural power outside of the Red House has no influence while within it, as demonstrated by Aoi Akane's inability to stop time while in there. Based from one of his lines following Akane's actions, only the resetting of the New Present timeline into another timeline can truly stop him and his actions once and for all.

Trivia[]

  • Yugi Amane's entire outfit looks similar in many ways to Researcher A's own, which was already inspired by the original iteration of Tsuchigomori's own outfit.
  • Whether this version of Yugi Amane was still Tsuchigomori's student in his younger days remains unknown.
    • Debunked. Since Tsuchigomori is a full human in the New Present, they may have been colleagues from the past, with the possibility that Tsuchigomori is younger than Amane.
  • This version of Yugi Amane is the realized version of Hanako's original future as was envisioned in his book in the 4PM Bookstacks before it was changed with his murder of Yugi Tsukasa and his subsequent suicide. This is further alluded when the Chapter Cover for Chapter 113 features the same exact depiction of the adult Yugi Amane that Tsuchigomori described to Nene.
    • However, him becoming a supernatural that kidnaps people who enter his house and turns them into ghosts possibly shows that even when his original fate is followed, Yugi Amane can still go down a darker path than when he had changed his fate and became Hanako-San instead. It is revealed however that he had gone down this same darker path because either Kako or some other supernatural entity had told him that the future was changed when he was 4 years old.
