Yako (
Appearance[]
Yako first appeared as a woman with long, beige hair tied and braided to one side of her head. Adorning her hair, she wears a red and white ribbon that has small bells on it; the design reminiscent of fox ears.
Her eyes are a bright green with black slits reminiscent of a cat's for pupils. She wears a white haori over a flower-patterned dark red kimono along with matching white gloves and socks; wearing brown geta sandals with red straps and a lime green obi. She is noted to be very beautiful by Nene.
However, her real form is a small white fox with a red bib tied around her neck. She has bell earrings, referencing to the ribbon in her human form. There are also small supernatural orbs that appear around her.
In the past, she was an Inari statue in front of a temple gate, presumably near Misaki's schoolhouse.
Personality[]
Yako is a prideful supernatural who thinks very little of humans other than her beloved, a deceased teacher named Misaki. She was willing to do anything to bring him back, going so far as employing the help of the school's students to rebuild Misaki's body and had no qualms with removing them if she deemed the bodies they created inadequate. This was due to her lack of understanding of humans and their anatomy.
Later, she admits that while her rumor was altered by Yugi Tsukasa, she still retained full control of her actions. She described it as a side of her that she often kept bottled up, but was then dragged out by force.
She prefers to be treated with respect, asking others to call her by her name instead of simply calling her "Kitsune". In moments of vulnerability, she lashes out by biting others in her fox form or verbally berating them. However, despite this, she still has a soft side, as seen when she comforted Kou after hearing about the incident with his friend, even allowing him to call her "Nee-san".

Transformation[]
Yako is able to shapeshift between her human and fox form at will, although her fox form is the one she most prominently uses outside of her own boundary and also the one that she was born with as an inari statue at the shrine. However, when inside her boundary, she uses her human form.
Number 2's Powers[]
As School Mystery Number 2, Yako has command over the Misaki Stairs, her boundary. It can be accessed by stepping on the fourth step of the Misaki Stairs.
- Control over "Space": As the supernatural who guards the concept of 'space' in the school, a person can travel from inside her Boundary to anywhere within it.
- Puppeting/Puppeteering: When Yashiro, Nene, Hanako presented the the disfigured human doll, Yako was able to blow life into it and allowed the doll to move.
Trivia[]
- Her favorite snack is sweet-bean-jelly sandwich.[1]
- Her latest concern is that it's very hard to groom herself.[1]
- In Afterschool boy Hanako-kun she fell in love with Nene's homeroom teacher, Nagisa, who looks similar to Misaki.
- In the pilot chapters, her fox form is mainly unchanged, aside from her face. This change happened twice within her appearances in Chapters 2 and 3 of the pilot. Her face in Chapter 3 closely resembles the one she got in serialized series.
- Yako is likely named after Yako/Nogitsune, a type of fox yokai.
- She's easily startled by lightning and will immediately return to the wild for refuge.[2]
- She doesn't consider snowy weather to be anything special. [3]
- She seems to enjoy hunting the Mokke; her favorite festival stall is Mokke hunting.[4]
