The Red House (
The Red House returns in the New Present, where it is populated by countless ghostly figures and overseen by Yugi Amane, now a supernatural similar in characteristics to his younger brother's supernatural form.
Overview[]
The Red House is a two-story house of a classical American design. It was nicknamed the Red House for its distinctive red roof, but despite the elements, the house still remains intact and overgrown by plants. It has tiled roofs and parts of the house separated into different quarters, as well as a second floor. In the front yard, a makeshift fence made out of beads is meant to keep out visitors.
When Nene and Kou visited the house after hearing a child's cries from inside, they were greeted with a collection of broken and discarded dolls. An unidentified ghost appeared behind Nene before vanishing, and one of the house's inhabitants is a young child with choppy, dark hair and dilated pupils, who is later revealed to be Yugi Tsukasa's younger self.
The Red House was built above the original sacrificial pit that housed the Former God of the Village, now known as "The Entity". As a result, the Red House became the extension of The Entity's powers, thus becoming what it is today. It is unknown if this is still the case in the New Present, but regardless, in there, the Red House is home to countless ghosts who were seemingly kidnapped and turned into ghosts by Yugi Amane, now a supernatural and the House' overseer.
History[]
Original Timeline[]
In ancient days, the location the Red House is in was previously the location of a giant pit with jagged rocks, where the ancient village of Kamome used to sacrifice the Akane Kannagi to the God Below. After the God was sealed, the pit was filled in with dirt, and overtime, became the site of the Red House. Only the well beside the house is what gives access to the pit below, and through it, became a portal to the boundaries.
In its time, the house was home to several people and a family, as the child stated, and they still linger here. Due to some unknown phenomenon, those who live in the house must never go outside. It intercepted Kou's phone with an ominous warning the moment Nene tried opening the door with the child in her arms. When he appeared in the same room where the child was doodling, there were two doors across from each other: one that leads farther in and the other that leads outside of the house.
For those who are trapped inside the house, they are led down a labyrinth of paths pertaining to a wish or thought they want, whether it is materialistic or idealistic. It can grant any wish in exchange for an offering, given there's a door that leads to the outside. The current inhabitant of the house is presumably Tsukasa, but Kou's wishes were prevalently shown instead of his.
New Present[]
The Red House returns in the New Present, looking the same as before. Given that the so-called "Root of the Problem" was removed by Kako and Mirai, the exact history and origin behind the Red House in the New Present remains unknown, although both the existence of Yugi Tsukasa and the possibility that said Root was never truly removed from the timeline implies that the House can still hold a similar or a different set of dark secrets as the Original iteration.
In Chapter 118, Minamoto Kou and Mitsuba Sousuke end up in the middle of the house after entering it in the previous chapter. In there, both Kou and Mitsuba encounter mysterious ghostly spirits, tell each other things regarding their dreams, and end up getting kidnapped by Yugi Amane, who now resides at the Red House as its supernatural caretaker.
Locations[]
Original Timeline[]
Although the house itself is dilapidated, it was seldom ever visited by people due to the number of suicide and accident-related incidents. There are a number of antique dolls strewn around, either with broken limbs and some missing eyes. In addition, there are unusual skeletons of small creatures left behind, presumably the corpses of lizards.
However, the Red House is far more mysterious than it looks. In reality, there are a large number of rooms of all shapes and sizes on several different floors, all connected by long, winding labyrniths that seemed to have no end to them. Such number and sizes of the rooms actually defies the actual exterior size of the house itself, implying that the House is an omnipresent realm unto itself, despite it not exactly being described as a boundary. Several of the doors in the Red House lead to other mysterious locations, or if opened, the creatures within will emerge and snatch the one who opened it away.
While the Red House is not exactly considered a boundary, one of the rooms, which is also filled with clocks, has a number of open faucets that pour water onto the floor, perhaps either in an attempt to make the Red House seem like a boundary, or that the origin of the wet floors of the boundaries came from faucets like these. And speaking of clocks, some of the rooms of the Red House seems to exhibit elements of the Seven Mysteries' power and aspects, like the aforementioned Clock Room pertaining to The Three Clock Keepers' power, and the room that the insect supernaturals that captured Yashiro Nene came from pertaining to The God of Death's powers. This is further hinted by Minamoto Teru when he theorized that the Seven Mysteries are tied to the Red House via Hanako, and since Hanako and Yugi Tsukasa share the same powers, it is possible too that both Yugi Twins's powers (And by extension, the Seven Mysteries) are ultimately derived from The Entity below it.
New Present[]
In the New Present, the Red House seemed to lack the supernatural abilities that it had in the Original Timeline, especially lacking the "infinitely bigger" interior space that it had, although it may also have another set of abilities, such as the entrance door being so hard that Minamoto Kou couldn't open it even with Raiteijou. Additionally, while the house in the Original Timeline is home to countless ghosts and supernatural creatures due to it being placed above The Entity's sacrificial pit, as well as the numerous murders and suicides that had happened inside the house, the house in the New Present is inhabited by ghosts that are implied to have been the spirits of people who were kidnapped by Yugi Amane, as he had told them that they would be getting new friends when he kidnapped both Kou and Mitsuba Sousuke.
