“ | It seems that the Mother is defeated | ” |
— Cult making a Bond One-Liner after destroying a Mother that tried to kill him with one shot
|
The Mothers are a species of gigantic flower or plant-like monsters that appear in Dear My Living Dead. They are responsible for creating the Living Dead and thus, the destruction of many towns and the loss of countless lives.
Appearance[]
The appearance of the mothers vary, but they generally have a gigantic flower-like head that has multiple sharp teeth enclosing a giant mouth. Other, possibly larger mothers, like the one in the Town of Ruben nest themselves in gigantic root-like structures, some having a giant baby's face enclosing their entire pod.
Personality[]
The mothers have little in the way of personality other than creating the countless Living Dead, and attacking anyone who interferes with their actions in aggressive ways. Some of them tend to be inactive unless awakened by anyone, especially Necromancers like Cult.
Abilities[]
Reanimation[]
“ | There's a reason why corpses turn into the Living Dead. We call them "Mothers". | ” |
— Cult explaining the Mothers as the reason for the Living Dead's creation
|
The Mothers are responsible for the creation of the Living Dead. They do so by enveloping the corpses with their roots and then reanimating them back to life in the process.
Extensions[]
As plant-like monsters, the mothers can extend almost all their parts. One such mother emerged from its nest deep in the underground in an attempt to kill Cult for interfering in its actions, only for Cult to end up killing it instead. Meanwhile, the Mother from the Town of Ruben was capable of creating multiple vine-like tentacles from its pod.
Hivemind to the Living Dead[]
“ | Once you defeat one, its over for the Living Dead it controls. | ” |
— Cult explaining how one can end the Living Dead's threat by killing their Mother
|
All the Living Dead created by a Mother is in their control via a Hivemind. That means that killing said Mother destroys all the Living Dead under their control, and puts an end to their rampage of terror.
Known Mothers[]
Trivia[]
- The method by which innocent victims were transformed into plant-like supernaturals in Chapter 104 was via a small flower petal that attaches itself to their pupils. The flower petal itself might be a callback to the flower-like appearances of the Mothers, which just like them, are also responsible for transforming their victims into plant-like supernatural monsters.
