The Boy Exorcist[]
Kou appears on the rooftop as Nene and Hanako are chatting, jumping down and boldly announcing his arrival (Nene mistakes him for a beautiful man showing up for her, of course). He carries his staff that is covered in a black cloth. After Hanako recognizes Kou as being part of the infamous Minamoto Clan (who are known for exorcising supernaturals), and filling Nene in on it, Kou declares he will exorcise Hanako, as that is the calling of all the boys born into the clan.
Kou jumps up and lands a hit on Hanako’s shoulder with his staff, while Hanako calmly remarks that he doesn’t think Kou can pull it off. Just then, a surge of energy zaps him, and seemingly paralyze, he falls over. Kou goes on to explain how his staff works — the raiteijou is a staff that turns the user’s spirit energy into lightning that can effectively counter evil, or in this case Hanako. Kou goes in for a finishing blow, but Nene jumps in between the two.
Startled and a little flustered, they introduce themselves to each other. Nene defends Hanako, saying he’s a good supernatural. Kou grabs Nene by the shoulders saying she has it all wrong, and that Hanako is a diabolical spirit that took somebody’s life. He shouts that she being fooled and that she’ll just be another victim, but is cut off by Hanako, who had his knife to Kou’s neck. Hanako then declares he cannot let himself be exorcised.
They swing at each other again, with Kou firing another blast of spirit energy, but Hanako is seemingly unfazed by it now. He asks for the staff, saying he may let Kou go. He doesn’t back down, shouting that he isn’t going to run. He swiftly get taken down by Hanako, and receives flicked to the face.
He then quickly seals the staff, and remarks on how Kou zapped himself every time he fired one at Hanako. Kou is embarrassed that he noticed. Hanako smiles and says that he could become a great exorcist, and he looks forward to being exorcised by him, which Kou is confused by. Hanako then delivers a final punch to the gut that knocks Kou out. He calls Hanako a jerk as he’s punched, and falls to the floor. Nene worries about the both of them, but is reassured that Kou will be fine, he’s pretty tough and that he’ll come back.
The Misaki Stairs Arc[]
After the rumors of the Misaki Stairs was widely spread, Kou bursts into Hanako's bathroom, pressuring him to answer about the disappearance of his friends, Yokoo and Satou, who were trapped inside No.2 Misaki Stairs' Boundary. Kou thinks that Hanako was the one who spreaded the strange rumors of the Seven Mysteries. After calming down, Kou, Nene and Hanako goes to the stairs next to the Art Room.
As they step on the forbidden fourth step, the trio gets teleported to the Boundary. While the three walk around the boundary, Kou asks Hanako why they aren't dead yet, to which Hanako replies with "whittling away at you,... ever so slowly... that's the fun part!". Suddenly, a phone nearby started ringing, so Nene comes and answers. Yako, who is currently using the alias "Misaki", orders them to find her right arm to which she used to "hold chalk for writing letters". Kou initially told Nene that it was a prank call, but stopped as Hanako told them [he] wouldn't reccommend that. As the hourglass tipped over and started counting time down, the trio disperses to begin the search for a right arm. Finishing their search, Kou brought back a "Wood-carved Big Biceps", Hanako a Robot Arm, and Nene bring back a slender mannequin right arm. He and Hanako is scolded by Nene, him for "found an arm [he] liked and brought it here", Hanako for not taking things seriously. It was only then, that they realized that the time had run out. He and the other two are chased by a giant scissor. With Hanako's help, he and Kou managed to fend off the scissors long enough to run up the stairs leading to the next room. Nene called for the Mokkes to help her bring the mannequin arm, but before she can do that, Kou jumped up and threw his selected right arm into the shrine that was used to submit body parts.
As they walk through the second door, a second phone began ringing, this time, Yako asks them to find her left arm which she uses to "pray for everyone's good health". The process of searching for body parts repeat, looking for her left leg, torso, eyes, ears and so on. When they finally reaches the final door, a humanoid figurine, created from all the body parts they have collected stuck together to create a human. It is only then when they meet Yako in her human form. Nene and Kou were initially frightened by Yako's deadly glare after examining the figurine, but Yako, on the contrary, was not mad at all, because she herself did not understood a thing about how human bodies worked. The figurine began to move, powered by Yako's magic, but soon broke apart. Because of this, Yako is greatly angered and disappointed at another failure in attempting to rebuild her beloved Misaki, sends out the giant scissors again to rip Kou and the others apart.
The first one sped towards Nene to rip her up, but the Kou took the damage to his right arm, which turn his arm into a soft, fluffy, plushie doll arm. Afterwards, Hanako and him fought Yako in order for Nene to go down the deepest part and destroy the Yorishiro.
After destroying Yako's Yorishiro, the trio get teleported back to the school, but Kou, was turned into a complete plushie. Nene is deeply worried by this, but Hanako comforts her, saying that he'll go back to normal.
The Young Exorcist Arc[]
We begin with a flashback, where Kou's brother, Minamoto Teru is seen exorcising a supernatural, while young Kou crouches behind a bush and watches as the older exorcists comments on Teru's talent as a young exorcist. Kou jumped out from the bush and hugs his older brother from behind, surprising him. Kou promises that he'll be just like Teru one day, a great exorcist and the two walk Hanako-kun Wiki.
Cut back to the present day, Hanako is using Kou as a shield to block Nene away from him, who is trying to get his real name, blood type, family structure and date of death for a compatibility horoscope. Hanako says that Nene should do it with Kou's brother, Teru. As Nene daydreams and compliment him, it is revealed that Teru was standing right behind her all along. Kou runs forward to greet his brother, Teru greets Nene and pulls Kou away to talk in private after spotting Hanako. Teru remind him that he is to expel any of the seven mysteries if he meets one of them immediately. Kou tries to defend himself by saying he does not see Hanako as a bad supernatural, to which Teru says that there's no good supernatural. He then take over the case of the Seven Mysteries, but Kou tries to stop him. He succeeds as Teru tells him he'll have a little more time.
Kou knows that he no longer has the heart to exorcise Hanako, so he is set on another goal to convince his brother that Hanako is good instead, even if it means he has to skip class. For he is skipping class, he tells his classmates that he is enduring labor pain. He decides to tail Hanako around the school, but is disencouraged seeing Hanako sneak around, dressed like a stereotypical thief. He finally encounters Hanako face-to-face when he decides to sneak up on Kou. As he opens up Hanako's pack, the items revealed inside is shown to be all the lost items took by the Mokkes, which Kou initially thought was stolen goods and looked at Hanako in terror. Hanako then explained to him that those were the items stolen by the Mokkes and asking for his help to retrieve an item stuck far up. As Kou holds Hanako's ankles, he reaches down to take the item, but Kou's hand slipped and Hanako fell to the ground. But as Hanako was already dead, this didn't do him any damage. When they were finally on the ground, the item he tried to retrieve was Kou's Traffic-Safety earring, which was taken when he let a Mokke sit on his head earlier.
Finally, Kou comes to the conclusion that there isn't a bad supernatural. Hanako, who is triggered by this pushes him down to the ground and draws his knife. Hanako then asked "If [he] was to killed [Kou] right now, say he has a very special reason to do so, is that considered right?". As Kou stares as him in shock, Hanako is shocked from behind by Teru, who had finally arrived to exorcise Hanako.
Upon seeing his brother's deadly glare, Kou is absolutely horrified at his expression. Not wanting Kou to get into the way, Teru uses a sacred bracelet relic to trap him. As Hanako and Teru engages in combat, Kou, who is trapped by the binding bracelets, watches in horror, recalling his brother's technique of fighting. Wanting to rescue Hanako, but he struggles on whether Hanako is truly good, and starts pinning the blame on himself. As Teru approaches Hanako, ready to deliver the final blow, Kou had broken free from the bracelet, rushed forwards and stopped Teru's blade with his own hand. The latter is taken aback by how Kou managed to broke free, being stunned for a few moments when Kou leaped up and tackled him onto the ground.
As Teru lays on the ground motionless as Kou complains about how his older brother doesn't trusts him and treats him like an idiot.
