The Confession Tree[]
Kodama first showed up as a seemingly ordinary tree, dubbed "The Confession Tree" by the students of Kamome Academy, due to rumors that any couple who confesses under it will be bound together in love. Aoi and Nene noted that there has been a large increase in the number of couples at the school after the tree gained its popularity. The two also witness Akane practicing his love confession towards Aoi with Lemon, but quickly brushed it off.
The next day, Nene and other students were shocked to see that Akane and Lemon had become an actual couple, and surmised that the tree's powers must be the cause. After school had ended for the day, she heads towards the tree to meet Hanako, as he had asked her to.
Under the tree, Hanako "confessed" his love to her, but instructs the excited Nene to say no instead. This causes Kodama to reveal itself as a supernatural tree, all while it preaches about how rejecting love is preposterous, much to Nene's shock.
Kodama starts to attack her after Nene made a careless remark about its "gross" appearance, only to have its branch blocked by the protection spell Hanako put on her. The tree immediately recognized Hanako as a member of the school mysteries, but it insists that it had done nothing wrong and was merely trying to make people happy. Hanako ignores it, claiming that it's meddling in others' business, and cuts the tree in half.
After the fight was over, the small and weakened Kodama complains about the amount of time it took to save the power from students' rumors to grow into its original large size. It was left in the garden as it no longer poses a threat to the students.
Searching[]
Kodama, who had now grown slightly larger, called out to Nene and informed her that it had seen Hanako idling around in the garden and staring at Akane's Hanitaro for a while before going back into the school ― leaving Nene disappointed as she had barely missed him again.

Kodama appeared briefly as it tried to persuade Mitsuba to join it in a mission to fill the school with couples.
