Plot[]
After school time, Yashiro Nene shows Minamoto Kou and Hanako a Gardening Club activity log book she borrowed from Akane Aoi. The book contained weird photos of Nene with strange arms at the back of each of the photos. Hanako and Kou gave a surprised response. Nene mentions that ever since she saw them, she frequently catches hands growing out of the corner of her eye. She expresses her frustration of these hands prompting concerns from Hanako asking if she is all right. Suddenly, she notices something and points it out. They all turned their backs and saw many hands by the window. In panic, she asks what they want, reckoning that they are here to grab her legs. This provoked Kou to make an attempt to exorcise them by challenging the hands in an arm wrestling. He lost instantly. The hand then disappeared. Nene notices the hand disappearing from the book. Hanako suggests they wanted attention.
Hanako explains to the two that most lesser spirits are satisfied and disappear once their desires are resolved. In order to get rid of the hands in the picture, they have to play with the hands that come out. Meanwhile, Kou grieves that he lost to a hand. Nene slides her hands to Kou's and comforts him by encouraging him to work with her to play with the hands together, enamoring Kou with cuteness.
After that, they played their way through countless hands that stood in their way until there is only one left. Kou reports that almost all photos have been cleaned out, meanwhile Hanako says he is worn out. Kou discovers a photo of Nene and Aoi last year wearing junior-high uniforms. He comments that they're all pretty well taken. Nene explains that they got a boy from the photography club who won a lot of awards to take them. She points Kou to the last page where the name, "Mitsuba Sousuke" can be seen, zoning him out. A purple hand grabs Nene's wrists. A mouth opens up on the hand telling Nene to come to him with a resounding voice. The hand then slowly dragged Nene inside the mirror as she screams for help. Hanako attempted to reach her hands but to no avail.
Nene was dragged to a dark foggy bathroom with hands in every corner. She notices the water and presumes that it is a boundary. She is approached by a boy with a empty and expressionless face. The boy inspects her. Nene describes him to have silky smooth hair and long lashes, labeling him handsome like a prince. But her anticipation broke when he called her a daikon and questioned what fertilizers it took to grow it. He says he is let down that someone finally showed up, but it was just a daikon. Nene whines saying that he dragged her in here then say that out of the blue. The boy then leads Nene to a door, showing a room of many floors and full of mirrors. He tells Nene that this is a school wonder's boundary called the Hell of Mirrors, but he doesn't know the details. Nene describes the room full of mirrors and says that he has never heard of this. The boy introduces himself as Mitsuba, he says that he was just getting worried because he couldn't get out of there. Nene asks if they met before, he says that he doesn't know. Nene asks how he brought her here. Mitsuba answers, telling Nene that he asked help from the hands to help him. Nene asks if they are his friends. Mitsuba bickers and explains that they are accessories for the wonder and he doesn't own them. He asks if Yashiro could help him get out. Yashiro agrees and they walk to the hall and Yashiro explains to him the boundaries.
She hears a voice and encounter a mirror on what appears to be Aoi. The Aoi in the mirror tells Nene her legs are super ugly. The mirror Aoi flicks her fingers and shows mirror reflections of everyone of her close friends. Aoi says that as of today they're going to call Nene, "Ugly Horse Radish-chan". Echoes throughout the boundary teasing Nene with the nickname.

— Hell of Mirrors Introduction
|
Meanwhile in the bathroom, Kou is seen striking the mirror with his staff in desperation as Hanako tries to hold him back from breaking the mirror. Kou talks about the past when his brother told him people with guilty consciences should watch out when they look in the mirrors. Hanako says that he would like to rescue her right away, but Number 3 attacks people in its Boundary by reflecting what they fear or don't want to see. It's strength changes depending on who's in it, and if he rushes blindly he could end up making it stronger. Kou says they got to think up a plan soon. Hanako says Number 3's behavior depends on what Nene is afraid of. He would like to find out what's going on inside, he says.
Nene tries to move Mitsuba over to the mirror. The mirror didn't seem to reflect anything. Mitsuba explains it's been that way since he got here. He speculates that maybe it's because he is a ghost, or maybe because he doesn't have any memories. Nene asks what he meant by it. Mitsuba reveals that he doesn't remember his life or how he died.
Mitsuba asks Yashiro what they needed to do to get out of here. Nene answers that they need to break the wonder's Yorishiro. The mirror Aoi appears again, she points out the direction of the Yorishiro which is located in the the top ceiling of the boundary. To reach the stairs up to the Yorishiro, they need to pass through the mirror, but the mirror is only for cute people, the Mirror Aoi says. It seems that the wonder would need to decide whether to let someone through in order to get to the Yorishiro. Suddenly, the room got darker, and a bell chime can be heard throughout the boundary.
The mirror Aoi tells Nene that the world would be better off without someone with such fat ankles and that her life has no value, she transforms into a bird-like entity, switching to a male voice in the process. The entity who is presumably to be the corporeal form of Number 3 asserts that he would take Nene's place. He explains that their goal is to exchange places with the living. The boy (referring to Mitsuba) is merely a feeble spirit, and he is not worth replacing. Number 3 then says Mitsuba's looks are 7 at best, while rating the daikon at 4. He flicks his finger, causing anthropomorphic minions to come out of the mirror to try and steal Nene's soul, whichever of them steals it gets to take her place. Arms come out of the ground and grabs Nene, restraining her from movement.
A minion was moments away from climbing to the hand to take her soul before Mitsuba throws a small mirror frame to the minion causing it to fall. The minions then begin to target Mitsuba instead prompting him to run, but they ended up restraining him to the ground. A minion swang a punch to Mitsuba. The arm around Nene tightens its grip, making her slightly lose consciousness. Mitsuba cries for help. A figure to what appears to look like Hanako shatters the arm, freeing her from the grasp. He then breaks through the glass, grabbing Number 3's throat as Number 3 asked why he is barging in his boundary before ruthlessly smashing his head against the mirror repeatedly. He tells Mitsuba he is hopeless and that he can't do anything on his own. Mitsuba starts crying as he pats his head.
