We're going back to the school...To turn back the hands of the Big Clock and Undo This World!
Akane Aoi telling the other members of Teru's Team his firm resolve and their final goal, Chapter 120.

Aoi Akane (蒼井茜 Aoi Akane?), is first and foremost, a variant of Aoi Akane whose very existence has been altered thanks to the actions of Kako and Mirai, which led to the creation of the New Present.

In this New Present, Aoi Akane is a first year student at Kamome Academy's High School division as one of Nene and Aoi's classmates, and the Student Council's Vice President. However, due to being a member of the Clock Keepers, and his previous iteration having been entrusted by Kako to keep watch over the New Present, Akane retains his role as the Clock Keeper of the Present, even if the Seven Mysteries doesn't exist in the New Present.

Aoi Akane is also one of the few characters in the New Present to retain the memories of the previous iteration of himself, being able to explain to Minamoto Teru as to why the present was changed, and then ultimately telling him that the New Present may be preferable to the original one. Despite switching between wanting to change the New Present because Teru is engaged to Akane Aoi, and keeping it intact because of how the Clock Keepers intended it to be a better world, he finally settles on restoring the original timeline after his team faces a tragedy at the Red House.

Appearance[]

Much like his original counterpart, this iteration of Aoi Akane has all the exact same features and appearances, down to the reddish-brown hair and eyes, and his Kamome Gakuen School Uniform with the vest over it. Noticeably, his glasses are absent from his appearance, because as the Overseer of the New Present, he doesn't need to fully pretend to have a normal school life anymore, and chose to back up the Clock Keepers in overseeing the New Present.

While not directly seen in the series proper yet, Akane can assume his Clock Keeper Form, and the Cover for Chapter 120 shows him in his Clock Keeper Form, alongside Kako and Mirai.

Personality[]

Because the Past changed, we now inhabit a Brand-New Present.

See? The First Day of the School Festival is drawing to a close.

In this "Present", none of the students will turn into monsters, and time won't come to a standstill.

The Incident that shook the school..."Never Happened".

That was the Clock Keeper's Goal.

Aoi Akane explaining to Minamoto Teru the reason why Kako and Mirai had to create the New Present.

This iteration of Aoi Akane retains the same personality as his original counterpart, thanks to his full retention of the latter's memories. However, he seems to be used to how Teru interrogates him, as he's no longer scared of him whenever he attacks, even after he was punched earlier.

A noticeable habit of Akane's is that he usually holds the Clock Keepers' Yorishiro close to his mouth, as seen in some of the illustrations featuring him.

Feelings towards Aoi[]

Everything that's ever happened getting replaced with something else? Anyone would have trouble accepting that.

Don't they realize, that I'm not happy with this either?

But if this is the only way to curb the cause of all this, then.

Yugi Tsukasa...I better check and make sure he's gone for good!

Akane reflecting on the changes in the New Present, and how he's not happy with it, now that Aoi is engaged to someone else, and not him

Due to his retention of his original iteration's memories, Akane's big crush on, and genuine love for Akane Aoi is still intact and big as ever. This is why he was very devasted upon learning that not only is Minamoto Teru the childhood friend of Aoi instead of him, but also that they are both engaged to one another. This very change is what convinced him that the New Present is not worth living in, and hence agree with both Teru and Nene that they have to restore their Original Present.

This also shows an air of selfishness and hypocrisy in his character, as he is willing to trade the New Present's relative peace and quiet, despite having said earlier that it would be better for anyone involved, including Teru, all because his girl is with another guy in it, and earlier, he got angry at Teru for not following his instructions to bring Nene to the Student Council Room so that he could explain things to her, despite earlier not telling him about his own plans back at the Trial of the Clock Keepers, which equally infuriated Teru.

Despite this, after finding out that he couldn't change the past on his own, he resolved to hope that at least, the one small change to his life is worth it if Yugi Tsukasa was gone for good, which turns out to be not true.

Abilities[]

Number 1's Powers[]

Unlike most of the New Present versions of the characters, Aoi Akane is still the Clock Keeper of the Present, despite the absence of the Seven Mysteries as a whole. This is also in part due to Kako assigning him the duty of overseeing the New Present that he and Mirai have made, and dealing with any threats that may negatively affect it while not losing his life in the process.

Superhuman Durability[]

Because of his position as the Clock Keeper of the Present, and thus the powers given to him, he is capable of surviving several attacks that would gravely injure or even be fatal to most humans. He took a powerful punch from Teru that pushed him towards a table with great force, and then was grabbed towards him by his tie, yet he was still able to have a conversation with Teru as if nothing happened to him.

This feat also happened to his previous iteration, as he was stabbed by one of Shinigami-sama's insects on Aoi's command, and he survived the attack sometime after Aoi covered his wound with strips from her kannagi kimono.

Memory Retention[]

This ability is possessed by some of the characters in the New Present, wherein they are still capable of remembering some details or memories that were originally possessed by their original counterparts. According to Akane however, this only lasts three days before the new memories overtake the older ones.

As one of the characters in the New Present to have such an ability, Aoi Akane remembers all details and memories of his previous iteration. He is also able to fully recall everything he has said, done, and heard up to the time that Kako and Mirai reset the Present into the New Present, and as such, was able to answer Teru with clarity as to their current situation.

For Akane however, this ability is a double-edged sword, as upon finding out that the New Present iteration of Aoi is both the best friend, and the fiancée of Teru, he is devasted beyond words. This change alone convinced him to agree with Teru and Nene, and then to try and restore the Original Present, albeit after failing to do that, he resolved to hope that at least, the cause of all the troubles that happened in the Original Present is gone for good, which ended up not being the case.

Spirit Sword Skills[]

While not as adept as Teru, or presumably Aoi, Akane is capable of wielding The Minamoto Sword somewhat skillfully when he faced Yugi Amane and his tentacles in Chapter 121.

Trivia[]

  • While not directly responsible for resetting the Main Series' timeline into the New Present, this iteration of Aoi Akane holds the responsibility of overseeing the New Present. This is somewhat similar to the position of a Keeper of Time in several forms of media, one of the more recent examples being Liu Kang from the Mortal Kombat Series following the events of Mortal Kombat 11.
  • Whereas Teru and Nene have different views on changing the New Present back to their original one, Akane only wishes to use the Clock Keeper's Yorishiro to return to the original present after Chapter 120, when it is made clear that this present isn't as stable as he had originally surmised it to be.
  • While Akane hasn't assumed his Clock Keeper form directly in the New Present so far, he appears in his Clock Keeper Form in Chapter 120's Color Cover.
    • And we know that it is him because 1: He's absent among the other members of Teru's Team in the cover, and 2: He's holding the Clock Keeper's Yorishiro close to his mouth, like he did in Chapter 113's Release Notice. While the original Akane was entrusted the Yorishiro by Kako, it was prior to the timeline being changed into the New Present so from then on, it was his New Present iteration that held the Yorishiro.
    • Assuming that it is the same iteration, the New Present Akane's Clock Keeper form appears in the story proper for the first time at the end of Chapter 126.
